As the weekend approaches, there are several bits of Chicago media news I wanted to mention. None of them really cry out for a full-fledged post, so I decided to do more a news digest.

In a news that came completely out of the left field, Tribune Publishing announced earlier this morning that Michael Ferro, owner of Wrapports (the Chicago Sun-Times' parent company) joined the company's Board of Directors as the "Non-Executive Chairman." Back in August, I wrote about Chicago Tribune's decision to shut down most of its TribLocal newspapers. Launched back in 2007, the chain was meant to be Tribune's big push into suburban media market, in hopes that it would increase revenue and allow Tribune to challenge Sun-Times Media's suburban newspapers. Between Wrapport (allegedly) undermining Chicago Sun-Times; and a very tone-deaf, poorly researched Chicago Tribune editorial, another bit of Chicago media managed to slip past me completely. Late last week, Chicago Tribune Media Group decided to shutter 11 out of 16 print editions of TribLocal.
